A variety of events and experiences are prepared here, allowing for a richer experience. Let’s learn more about Osaka at the Osaka Living Museum!
From past to present,
Osaka Housing Museum
Osaka Housing Museum is the first museum in Japan to focus on housing, from living to town building. You can appreciate the streets of Osaka during the Edo period and the houses and lifestyle of modern Osaka through models and materials. You can experience the actual streets and touch detailed exhibits. You can discover the charm and joy of Osaka's streets and life.
In addition, various seasonal events are held at special exhibitions held five times a year. An audio guide is also provided so that even those who do not know Japanese can enjoy it.
Osaka's shopping malls in life size?
The charm of the Osaka Housing Museum is that you can experience Osaka of the past with all five senses. On the 9th floor of the museum, the streetscape of Osaka during the Edo period has been restored to its original size. You can enjoy the sights of Osaka's shops and villages by walking around them. You can also try kimono.
It doesn't end with a tour of the village. I can hear sounds that I would have heard if I lived in Osaka in the past. You can hear the goldfish seller's voice, the sound of rain, and the sounds of dogs and birds. Even though you are indoors, the day, evening, and dark night scenes are well-realized, so you can feel as if you have taken a time machine to the past.
Osaka at a glance
On the 8th floor, the town, houses, and life of Osaka during the Ji, Taisho, and Showa periods are on display. The center of the exhibition is not only the building, but also the detailed reproduction of lifestyle and customs. So you can see the history of Osaka civilization at a glance. You can scan the QR code for each exhibition with your smartphone to see a description of the exhibition, so you may want to check it out.
