Marmottan Museum of Art
It can be said that no museum has as many paintings by Monet as the Musée Marmottan. You can admire approximately 100 of Monet's masterpieces in one place. Not only that, it’s nice to be able to see it together with various works by masters who represent Impressionism.
Works by Gauguin, Renoir, Degas, etc. are from Monet's personal collection. Admission to the temporary exhibition is also included.
Marmottan Museum Story
The Marmottan Monet Museum building was once the villa of Christophe Kellermann (1737-1820), Duke of Valmy, a town in eastern France and commander of the French army, where he enjoyed hunting and resting in the Bois de Boulogne. In 1882, businessman and art collector Jules Marmottan purchased the villa and used it as a residence and art storage, where various works began to be collected.
Art museum sponsored by Monet's son
The Marmottan Museum began collecting Monet's works in earnest when Michel Monet, the second son of the French impressionist painter Claude Monet, sponsored it. In 1996, he donated the paintings he had inherited from his father to the Art Society, and the society sent these works back to the Marmottan Museum, where Monet's works began to be exhibited. Afterwards, as it had the largest number of Monet works, it was renamed the 'Marmotan Monet Museum'. I changed it to '.
A simple interior
The museum has one floor underground and two floors above ground. The first basement floor is a special exhibition room displaying Monet's works, and the first and second floors display furniture from the Napoleonic era and works by impressionist painters such as Renoir and Gauguin.
Additionally, the Marmottan Monet Museum houses over 300 Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist works. You can see paintings, drawings, sculptures, miniatures, furniture, bronze works, and even ceramics collected by Paul Marmottan, who was interested in the works of Napoléon I during his reign.
