Okinawa Southeast Botanical Garden
How about spending a leisurely day at the Okinawa Southeast Botanical Garden, a place to enjoy with all five senses?
The Southeast Botanical Garden is already famous as Japan's largest botanical garden with a history of about 40 years!
It has about 1,300 species of subtropical plants and palm trees from Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America on an area of about 45,000 pyeong. In particular, you can enjoy the largest yuzu palm tree avenue in Japan, as well as baobab trees, lotus flowers, and dragon's blood trees. Inside, there are several ponds and lakes, along with various plants and trees, creating a charming atmosphere, making it the perfect date course.
You can meet cute squirrel monkeys and capybaras at the Animal Encounter Square, and you can even feed them for an additional fee. As the name suggests, spend a warm day in a paradise created by animals and plants.
Introducing various plants!
- Alexander palm tree
Alexander palms can only be grown in greenhouses on the Japanese mainland, but here you can enjoy the amazing sight of countless palm trees growing straight up towards the sky. This palm-lined street is also famous as a popular spiritual site.
- Baobab tree
The baobab tree, native to Madagascar, can be found in botanical gardens throughout the southeast. The leaves are eaten as a vegetable, the roots are used as medicine, and no part of the tree is wasted.
- Lotus
As Okinawa enters its rainy season, lotus flowers begin to bloom, creating a spectacular sight as large ponds become covered in white and pink lotus flowers.
- Dragon Blood Tree
As the name suggests, the dragon's blood tree is a tree that produces dark red raisins called dragon's blood. Don't miss this special opportunity to see the dragon's blood tree forest without having to go to its natural habitat!
