History of the Royal Palace of Madrid
The Royal Palace of Madrid was originally the Alcazar of Madrid, a palace used by the Castilian dynasty during its rule, and was built in the Mudejar style. After the Trasmatara dynasty was cut off and the Absburg dynasty took over, Madrid became the capital and was renovated by Juan Bautista de Toledo. Later, spires symbolizing the Spanish Empire were built on both sides, giving it its current unique appearance.
After it was destroyed by a fire on Christmas Eve in 1734, the Italian architect Filippo Ljubarra rebuilt it into a Baroque style, and this is the Royal Palace of Madrid that we see today.
