Mt. Hiei, 848m high, is home to Enryaku-ji, founded in 788! This is a popular spot where you can see Kyoto’s traditional scenery, including Lake Biwa, all at once. There are several ways to get to Mt. Hiei, but the easiest and most beautiful way is to take the Eizan Cable Car, get off, and then take the ropeway to the top.
