Cluny Abbey and Museum is a medieval monastery ruins and museum located in the village of Cluny in the Burgundy region of France. Founded in the 10th century, Cluny Abbey was the most powerful and influential monastery in western Europe from the 12th to the 14th centuries, and served as the center of the Cluny penitential movement.
Although most of the monastery's buildings were destroyed after the French Revolution, excavations and restoration work were carried out in the 19th century, and approximately 20% of the monastery remains. The museum displays relics related to Cluny Abbey and works of art from the medieval era, so it's a good idea to see them together.
