From cultural property exhibitions to observatories,
Osaka Castle Castle Tower
Osaka Castle is famous as the center of Japanese power in the past and a natural fortress. In the meantime, it went through many ups and downs, including power struggles, fires, and wars, to reach what it is today. The castle tower is the highlight of Osaka Castle and is located high enough to be called an observatory, offering a panoramic view.
Admission to the castle tower is free if you have an Osaka Amazing Pass, but if you don't have one, I recommend visiting with a WAUG discount admission ticket.
A must-see course in Osaka!
Osaka Castle Castle Tower
Before visiting Osaka Castle’s castle tower, let’s learn about its history. Toyotomi Hideyoshi wanted to build a large castle suitable for the ruler's residence, so he built Osaka Castle on the Ishiyama Honganji site in 1583. After Hideyoshi's death, power shifted to the Tokugawa clan, and Osaka Castle was toppled at Natsunojin, Osaka in 1615. Osaka Castle was rebuilt over a period of about 10 years. The castle tower was destroyed by lightning in 1665, but the current castle tower was rebuilt in 1931 thanks to the enthusiasm of the citizens, and was designated as a registered tangible cultural property in 1997!
Take the time to learn about Japan by visiting the historic Osaka Castle Tower!
How can I get to Osaka Castle?
There are several ways to get to Osaka Castle from Namba Station in downtown Osaka, but it usually takes about 30 minutes. Among them, I will introduce the method of moving with the least amount of walking.
The easiest way is to take the Midosuji Line and then transfer to the Chuo Line. There are four subway stations surrounding Osaka Castle, and the fastest way is to take the Chuo Line and get off at Tanimachi Yonchome Station and walk.
Experience vivid history in the theater room!
In fact, five videos about Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Osaka Castle are shown sequentially in the theater room located on the first floor of the castle tower! Did you know?
Therefore, even if you lack historical knowledge, the exhibitions will be even more impressive if you watch the videos and then look around the castle tower!
Not fluent in Japanese? Do not worry! The videos shown in the theater room have subtitles in Japanese, English, Chinese, and Korean, so you can watch the videos comfortably.
