A kaiseki restaurant that has been around for a long time
Minokichi was established in 1716 as one of the eight fresh fish shops designated by Kyoto Prefecture during the Edo period, and still plays a significant role in Kyoto’s culinary industry. It moved to its current address in 1950, and in 1992 it was renamed Takeshigeru, meaning “restaurant surrounded by bamboo groves.” As the old capital of Japan, Kyoto has developed its own unique cuisine over the course of history, including imperial cuisine, refined vegetarian cuisine derived from Zen Buddhism, and simple tea kaiseki cuisine.
Kyoto-style kaiseki cuisine is highly regarded for its unique aesthetic and has become part of traditional Japanese culture and art. Takeshiro is a restaurant that perfectly inherits this traditional kaiseki. Enjoy fresh kaiseki fish dishes, especially those praised at Minokichi Honten Takeshigero, where Emperor Mikado (the Emperor) of the Meiji period often visited.
