The largest aquarium in the Orient,
Churaumi Aquarium
Okinawa's largest aquarium! Churaumi Aquarium is one of the aquariums you must visit when traveling to Okinawa. It is the world's second largest aquarium, and you can see special sea creatures such as manta rays and whale sharks, and you can also enjoy coral reefs shining with beautiful, colorful lights and cute tropical fish.
In particular, the highlight of Churaumi is the whale sharks and marine life swimming leisurely in the giant glass aquarium. It is an aquarium where you can simply enjoy the water itself.
Okinawa's #1 must-visit destination,
Churaumi Aquarium
A utopia of beautiful seas and secret marine animals! We invite you to the Churaumi Aquarium located in Okinawa! Churaumi Aquarium is one of the most beloved tourist destinations in Okinawa, and if you are planning a trip to Okinawa, it is a must-see course that you should prepare in advance.
Here, you can find a variety of marine life, such as manta rays and whale sharks, that you can't see in other aquariums. The sight of marine life swimming leisurely in the large-sized aquarium is a spectacle you can't see anywhere else! I recommend taking a photo with the large-sized aquarium as the background. In addition, there are various themes and shows where you can admire colorful coral reefs or meet deep-sea animals, so you won't have time to get bored!
1F / Meet the tank that recreates the deep sea of Okinawa
First, the first floor of Churaumi Aquarium is a space where you can see various underwater scenes with the concept of 'reproducing the deep sea of Okinawa.'
The deep sea, which holds countless mysteries, is often referred to as the sea that is over 200m deep, and this mysterious world has been perfectly recreated. You can see about 100 species of creatures that have never been introduced before through transparent acrylic.
2F / Introducing the Kuroshio Sea
The main attraction of Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, the Kuroshio Sea, is a place where you can learn about shark ecology in detail. At the Churaumi Theater, you can watch high-definition video of the ecology of various creatures living in Okinawa's Churaumi and the relationship between Okinawan people and the sea, and you can understand the shark ecosystem in the Shark Room.
The highlight is the Aqua Room, which you can see through the huge acrylic panel at the front! You can watch whale sharks and manta rays swimming in groups in the large 7,500m3 tank.
TIP: During the Kuroshio Journey, which is only available from 15:00-17:00, you can watch whale sharks being fed!
3F / Introducing the coral reef tour
On the third floor of Churaumi Aquarium, there is a place where you can see coral reefs and tropical fish. Here, you can see beautiful tropical fish and coral reefs in the tanks. Also, in the “Ino Creatures” corner, there is an experience corner where you can see, touch, and experience the creatures living in the shallow seas of Okinawa.
4F / Invitation to the ocean
The 4th floor rooftop of Churaumi Aquarium offers a view of Okinawa's emerald green ocean and Iejima Island. This is the best photo spot in Churaumi Aquarium, so many people come here to take pictures.
You must go to Okichan Theater
Dolphin performances are held at the Churaumi Aquarium Okichan Theater! Through the show, you can learn about dolphin ecology and dolphin abilities. Anyone can watch the Okichan Theater for free with just a Churaumi Aquarium admission ticket.
TIP: The front row seats can get splashed with water! If you don't like that, sit in the back!
After viewing Churaumi, be sure to take a walk along the ocean promenade.
Behind Churaumi Aquarium, there is a walking path where you can enjoy a walk while feeling the nature of Okinawa. It is called the Ocean Walking Path, and you can see a really great view of the cobalt blue Okinawan ocean and the islands rising on the horizon.
There are also stairs leading down to the sea, so you can see the sea as well, so be sure to visit.
