Salzburg Card Secrets: Your Guide to Maximizing Value

Useful Tips You Should Know!

Directed by Matthew

The Salzburg Card, your all-access pass to Salzburg's top attractions, is a must-have for any visitor. Available in 24, 48, and 72-hour durations, this card offers free entry to most of Salzburg's attractions. It is a good way to maximize your experience if you plan ahead. Here's how to make the most of your Salzburg Card and unlock the city's best experiences.

1. Start with the Untersberg Cable Car

Maximize your Salzburg Card's value by starting bright and early. Most museums open at 9 AM, so get a head start by taking the Untersberg Cable Car first thing. Catch the earliest bus to save precious time.

2. Hellbrunn Palace: A Detour on Your Way Back

The same bus (#25) that takes you to the Untersberg Cable Car also stops at Hellbrunn Palace. After your cable car adventure, hop off at the palace and use your Salzburg Card for free entry. Explore the palace's zoo, trick fountains, and museum to get the most bang for your buck.

3. Maximize Your Card in the Afternoon

After conquering the cable car and exploring Hellbrunn Palace, head back to Salzburg's city center for an afternoon of museum hopping. This is where your Salzburg Card truly shines, especially if you have a 24-hour pass. Prioritize the museums you planned on visiting in the old town.

4. Master the Public Transport

Public transportation is your secret weapon for maximizing your Salzburg Card. Use it to get to the Untersberg Cable Car, and then rely on buses to navigate the city center. Take advantage of your card by visiting places slightly outside the city center, like the Stiegl Brewery. One thing to note, unlike the museums which will show you how much time you have left on the card at the dedicated scanners, public transport does not have this feature. We highly recommend writing down the time when you first use the card on its back.

5. Don't Miss the DomQuartier and Salzburg Museum

If you're a museum buff, these two are a must. The DomQuartier and Salzburg Museum offer in-depth experiences, each requiring 1-2 hours to fully appreciate. Make sure to visit these before your Salzburg Card expires!

6. Sunset Cruise at 6 PM

End your 24-hour Salzburg Card experience with a romantic river cruise on the Salzach River. Catch the 6 PM departure for a magical sunset voyage. To maximize your card's use, visit as many museums as you can in the afternoon and take the last river cruise.

7. Mönchsberg: The Grand Finale

The Mönchsberg lift, leading to the Museum of Modern Art, is your final Salzburg Card destination. This is your last chance to use your card before it expires. Ride the elevator up the mountain in just 30 seconds and enjoy one last stunning view. The museum is also one of the last attractions to close, making it the perfect grand finale. The museum also has a restaurant inside that is open late. So, we recommend visiting the museum, taking the elevator, and finishing your day with a delicious meal at the restaurant.
