BESTThis is a restaurant that perfectly fits the expression of eating Kyoto's four seasons! They used seasonal ingredients very delicately, and the course flow was so natural that I was really amazed while eating. In particular, the white miso soup with yuzu flavor and the grilled trout sashimi were really delicious!
A Michelin 2-star kaiseki restaurant for 6 consecutive years,
Kyoto Gion Maruyama
Introducing Gion Maruyama, run by Chef Yoshi Maruyama, who has held two Michelin stars for the past six years. This restaurant, which follows the path of authentic Japanese cuisine, is renowned for its dishes that satisfy all five senses.
The restaurant is conveniently located on a charming street in Kyoto's Gion district, and its open tables allow you to sit close to the chef and watch him at work. Make a reservation at either the Gion or Kenninji locations and visit.

Chef Yoshino Maruyama's
Maruyama
Maruyama is a renowned restaurant that has held two Michelin stars for the past six years. Both the Gion and Kenninji branches are located in the charming streets of Gion, Kyoto, creating an even more magical atmosphere.
The Gion branch is a two-minute walk from Gion Shijo Station. Follow the narrow alleyway until you see a red lantern. The Kenninji branch is located south of Kenninji Temple, offering a different atmosphere from the Gion branch.
Maruyama offers kaiseki cuisine. They prepare dishes using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Their most popular menu item is the Special Matcha Course, featuring Kyoto matcha. We also recommend the Chef's Recommendation Course, which you can trust and savor!
Introducing Chef Yoshino Maruyama

Owner Yoshio Maruyama is a kaiseki expert who has worked at renowned restaurants such as Kodaiji Doi and Kikunoi Kiyamachi (now Roan Kikunoi), and was also head chef at Kodaiji Wakuden. Maruyama, which he opened in 1988, was followed ten years later by another sister restaurant of the same name in Kenninji.
Traditional Japanese style space

Maruyama's concept is to offer delicious food in a traditional Japanese setting, boasting a uniquely Japanese interior. The Gion Maruyama location features six bar seats and one traditional Japanese private room on the first floor, while the second floor features spacious rooms decorated with Wajima-nuri lacquerware. The Kenninji location offers private room-style seating for a more private dining experience.
About food

All of Maruyama's kaiseki dishes use only seasonal ingredients. In particular, all the vegetables used are essential ingredients in Kyoto cuisine and have a deep connection to the seasons. Therefore, while Maruyama's cuisine isn't overly exciting, the care put into each dish, along with its aesthetics, visual impact, and simple flavor, make it a dish you'll never forget.
