BESTThis is a restaurant that perfectly fits the expression of eating Kyoto's four seasons! They used seasonal ingredients very delicately, and the course flow was so natural that I was really amazed while eating. In particular, the white miso soup with yuzu flavor and the grilled trout sashimi were really delicious!

Maruyama
Maruyama is a very famous restaurant that has been awarded 2 Michelin stars for the past 6 years. Both the Gion branch and the Kenninji branch are located on the charming streets of Kyoto's Gion, allowing you to enjoy an even more mysterious atmosphere.
The Gion branch is located a 2-minute walk from Gionshijo Station. As you follow the narrow alley, you will be greeted by red lanterns. The Kenninji branch is located south of Kenninji, so you can feel a different atmosphere from the Gion branch.
Maruyama offers kaiseki cuisine. The dishes are made with carefully selected fresh ingredients depending on the season, and the most popular menu is the special matcha course based on Kyoto's matcha. We also recommend the chef's recommended course, where you can trust the chef and taste it!
Introduction of Chef Maruyama Yoshino
The owner, Yoshio Maruyama, worked at famous restaurants such as Koda-ji Doi and Kikunoi Kiyamachi (now Roan Kikunoi), and is a chef who is well-versed in kaiseki, having also served as the head chef of Koda-ji Wakuden. Maruyama, which he opened, opened in 1988, and 10 years later, another sister store of the same name opened in Kenninji.
Traditional Japanese-style space
Maruyama boasts an interior that gives off a unique Japanese feel, with the concept of delicious food in a traditional Japanese-style space. The Gion Maruyama branch has 6 bar seats and 1 traditional Japanese-style private room on the 1st floor, and the rooms on the 2nd floor are spacious and decorated with Wajima-nuri. The Kenninji branch has private room-style seating, allowing you to enjoy your meal more privately.
About the food
All of Maruyama's kaiseki uses only seasonal ingredients. In particular, all the vegetables used are an important ingredient in Kyoto cuisine and are deeply related to the season. That's why Maruyama's food is not irritating, but once you taste the sincerity, aesthetic and visual effects, and simplicity contained in each dish, you will never forget it for a long time.
