BESTI could really feel the splendor of French architecture.
The Palace of Versailles, located approximately 22km southwest of downtown Paris, is a palace built during the Bourbon Dynasty of the Kingdom of France. It is considered a masterpiece of Baroque architecture and is not only splendid, but also shows the extent of Louis XIV's powerful power at the time.
In particular, the interior of the palace is extravagant, as if there is no place more luxurious than this, and it is also famous for having more gardens than the area of the palace building. It is one of the best attractions in France where you can enjoy seeing the Grand Trianon Palace and the Lesser Trianon Palace, which are separate palaces.
The Palace of Versailles and its gardens,
Meet the temporary exhibition and Trianon
The word 'magnificence' is synonymous with the Palace of Versailles, and one look at this magnificent palace will tell you why.
If we travel to France, we must see the luxurious interior of the Palace of Versailles and meet Marie Antoinette's Hamlet! The grandeur is best expressed in the 75m long ballroom lined with statues and busts. There are 17 arched windows, each decorated with 21 individual mirrors. This means that light is reflected from a total of 357 mirrors!
The Palace of Versailles is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist destinations in France, so be sure to see it!
How to get to the Palace of Versailles, recommended
To visit the Palace of Versailles, the best way to travel is by taking the RER C line. Since RER C connects the Musée d'Orsay to Versailles, I personally recommend visiting the Musée d'Orsay and then going to Versailles.
At this time, it is a good idea to install the 'Citymapper' transportation app to check the exact train schedule. You can check when the train arrives through the app, board it, and get off at the Palace of Versailles station to see the palace right away.
Operating hours vary by facility!
The Palace of Versailles has many things to see, including the palace, the Trianon mansion, and the gardens. But did you know that they all have different opening hours?
The Palace and Trianon Mansion are open every day except Mondays. The Palace opens at 9am, while the Trianon Mansion opens at 12pm.
The park and gardens are also open every day. The gardens are open to the public except on days when there are fountain shows and musical gardens. (As of 2023, during the summer, the musical fountain show is scheduled every weekend, the musical garden is scheduled from Tuesday to Friday, and the night fountain show is scheduled every Saturday night and Thursday, July 14 and Monday, August 15.) So, you should check in advance what events are happening on the day you visit! For easy confirmation , go here to get operating information.
Enjoy the Palace of Versailles with more fun
If you have entered the Palace of Versailles, there is a way to listen to the Korean guide for free. (WAUG admission ticket - includes audio guide for download to device) Just install the Palace app.
If you have the Palace app and earphones, we will introduce you to the must-see places along with explanations of the Palace of Versailles. There is also an audio guide inside the Palace of Versailles, so you can choose either one and use it.
Following in the footsteps of Marie Antoinette
If Louis XIV built the Palace of Versailles, Marie Antoinette, who made it fit her lifestyle, is also very important. Her bedroom in particular is a great place to follow in her footsteps. Marie Antoinette used this bedroom from 1770 to 1789, and what’s amazing is that it was all open, so people in the palace could witness everything that happened here, from the queen getting up in the morning to giving birth.
It's even more fun to visit the Palace of Versailles when you consider Marie Antoinette's footsteps.
Take a walk around the Grand Trianon Palace
After Louis XV passed away, Marie Antoinette was granted the Grand Trianon by Louis XVI, making her the first queen to own real estate. She later renovated the palace on a large scale, changing it to the Anglo-Chinese style that was popular at the time. The surrounding area is also very nice for walking, giving you a glimpse into her tastes.
A certification shot in the garden is a must
When you look at the whole thing from afar, it is splendid and grand, but when you walk around the garden, the garden is the place that is most full of details. That is why there are so many good spots to take pictures. Be sure to choose a day when there is no fountain show to see the garden. If you miss the garden, you cannot say that you have seen all of the Palace of Versailles.
